There was the added spice of a little smuggling but the excitement preceding the denouement was qui Mr Titchmarsh successfully evoked the village setting and although the female love interest was a little cliché, a beautiful, lithe ex-dancer and an artist to boot, the hero of the story was a rather attractive young man who didn't annoy me by letting his past totally ruin his future. This is a much lighter book that I would normally choose to read but one of its attractions was the Cornish setting. There was even a bit of humor here and there, and some colorful characters including the awful McDermott's with their fancy boat, which the author described as "Titanic tupperware!".

The setting is the rugged and beautiful Cornwall, a favorite place for vacations when we had a young family in the latter half of the 1980s, and now famous for the TV show Doc Martin! The story was interesting and overall, it was a very pleasant read and a nice change from my usual fare. There was even a bit of humor here and there, and som Alan Titchmarsh gained fame in the UK as a gifted and knowledgeable gardener on TV, so, I was very surprised to discover that he also writes romantic novels. It does go a bit crazy at times with a rather outrageous mystery involving smuggling and a very unlikely pair of criminals but it is all entertainment and a very nice way to spend a few hours.moreĪlan Titchmarsh gained fame in the UK as a gifted and knowledgeable gardener on TV, so, I was very surprised to discover that he also writes romantic novels. And then it is written in such a pleasant, easy way which makes reading it a pleasure. Secondly it is set in Cornwall which is one of my favourite places in the world. It does go a bit crazy at times with I am not a fan of Romances in general and there is no denying that this is one, but it has a bit more to it than just boy meets girl, falls in love, overcomes some sort of obstacle and ends up happily ever after.įirstly it is written by a male author which always gives things a different slant.
